About Roberta Holden
I had the good fortune to have had a pretty unique childhood. I grew up on a sailboat - a forty-four foot ferrocement ketch built by my father - with a family of four squeezed aboard, for thirteen years. We were primarily moored in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations, when we weren't off sailing. For two and half years we sailed offshore, eventually arriving in Aotearoa. We also spent two months of each year, for thirteen years, harvesting wild rice as a family on remote lakes on Treaty 5 Cree territory. We lived entirely off-grid out of tents or, later, a small one room plywood cabin. We had no electricity, running water, or road access, but plenty of adventures.
Following an undergrad degree in Geography from the University of British Columbia, I discovered a love of photography and completed a two year diploma in photography at Focal Point: the Visual Learning Institute. From there I pursued a career in photojournalism, while simultaneously exhibiting my personal work (primarily shot on black & white film) in galleries and museums around the world. I then moved to Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) - the mecca of Canadian rock climbing - to pursue my passion for climbing.
Paw Prints Pet Photography is located in beautiful Squamish, B.C. The regular service area spans the region between Paradise Valley and Britannia Beach. Photo shoots outside of this area are also possible with a nominal travel fee.
